Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh completed this morning in Beijing what everyone expected them to do, win gold in women's beach volleyball for the second consecutive Olympic Games.
It wasn't easy, as Treanor and Walsh had to do it in the rain and go against the last duo to actually beat them, China's Wang Jie and Tian Jia, but they won in straight sets 21-18, 21-18.
By the way, if you're wondering when that that loss to Jie and Jia happened, it was back in June of 2007.
This means that Treanor and Walsh have now won an absurd 108 matches straight in both international and Olympic play. I honestly can't think of a run as dominant as that in professional sports history. I'm sure something comes close, but whatever, what Treanor and Walsh have done in nothing short of remarkable.
The one unfortunate thing - if you like seeing them dominate - is that both women apparently have said they want to start families after the Games, so their streak might actually come to an end because of pregnancy, rather than an actual loss.
Either way, they've already cemented their legacy as by far the greatest women's beach volleyball in history. And it'll be a long, long time before anyone ever comes close to breaking their consecutive game win streak.

If you're on the site, then you already know the result of tonight's biggest race - the men's 200m. But don't worry, there's a lot of other stuff on tonight that we haven't already posted on.Strangely, for the second night in a row, NBC has decided to show the Olympic debut of BMX bike racing live. I have no idea why in the hell they're doing this, other than that they want to corner the under-12 market. I mean honestly, can't we get some handball in primetime for crying out loud? Two days of live BMX racing is two days too much.
At least to top off the night we get Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh going up against the Chinese duo that was the last team to beat them in any competition anywhere - and that was back in June of 2007. Treanor and Walsh have since hammered them multiple times. NeedlessI think I'll go with Treanor and Walsh winning their second gold tonight.
Tonight's Primetime NBC Schedule
8pm to 9pm - The stars of Olympic gymnastics competition perform exhibition routines at the Champions Gala. Also, the men's 200m dash. The U.S. swept the event in Athens, led by Shawn Crawford, who's back with another strong American group. The favorite is Jamaican sensation Usain Bolt, who already won the Beijing 100m in world record time. Also, women's 400m hurdles.
9pm to 11pm - BMX racing is a new event at the Olympics - an all-out, full-contact race through a twisting course dotted with jumps. Though the event is unpredictable in nature, the American men have unmatched depth, featuring 2007 world champion Kyle Bennett. On the women's side, Jill Kintner was the top American finisher at the 2007 World Championships (LIVE ET/CT).
11pm to 12pm - Defending Olympic beach volleyball champions Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh try to confirm their status as "Queens of the Sand" in the women's gold medal final (LIVE ET/CT). They face competition from a Chinese tandem that holds home-court advantage.

Yes, I'm aware that the site has been, uh, sort of difficult today. And I know "difficult" would be an understatement. But it's being worked on. I swear. $%^&!.Today's site goodness

Other FanIQ site goodness
1. Usain Bolt won the 100m dash this year, but do you know who has won it in the past?
2. A great question that many have attempted to answer for years: Which Olympic sport has the hottest athletes?

CNN's Campbell Brown is upset because Michael Phelps is set to cash in big-time on his 8 gold medals. Really? Is that a surprise? Of course not. But Brown feels that since Shawn Johnson won't get the same advertising revenues, this is somehow sexist.
Maybe it's true that male athletes get more in endorsement money than their female counterparts. But is Michael Phelps really a good example, if that's the point you're trying to make? Phelps SHOULD make more money than anyone else. He's arguably the greatest athlete of all time. There's no way that Johnson's (or any other Olympic athletes') endorsement money should even APPROACH what Phelps gets.
Do the math. It's quite simple. Phelps > everyone. It's really not even close. There's a reason for everything, and 8 golds trump all. Fact.
The funniest part is their graphic showing the top male athletes, in terms of endorsement dollars, in which they spelled Michael Jordan's name wrong. Great reporting, CNN. Outstanding work.
